The Lamp
Sometimes images appear in my paintings that I didn’t intentionally paint. This painting is a good example displaying several objects that an artist would say “my muse painted for me”. The lamp itself was the center of attention. I was making a design and I saw what looked like a lamp. I decided to work around it. This painting is one of my favorites. I was thinking of the fall season. This season is my favorite season mainly because it is colorful and the temperature is not too hot or cold. (I chose blues, oranges and yellows to show autumn in the trees.) It seems like you get the pleasure of the remnants of summer and the crisp cool air of the coming winter. I painted this wax painting after traveling across Louisiana. I loved seeing the moss hanging from the trees. While in New Orleans, we made side trips to the local area and I was so impressed by the bayou landscapes and trees that I encountered. Upon my return to New Mexico I was describing those environments to friends and my excitement caused them to demand that I paint what I remembered.
