Winter

Winter

“Winter,” is a painting that I did in art class. It is right now my only mixed media. I put gold flecks in the moon. Also added some material to give it thickness. No matter what I do I end up with fairly thin wax. I love painting winter scenes because of all of the subtle colors that snow reflects. This painting is painted on a highly sanded and polished artist wood panel and is an older painting that I recently returned to and revised. “Winter” depicts an orange, full...

Organ Mountains

“Organ Mountains,” is a painting that I started some years back & just finished it recently. There were many times at sunset  when the Organ Mountains really appear to be red, so that’s just how I painted them. We lived at the base of the Organ Mountains in Las Cruces, New Mexico for thirty years. We also, lived on base at the White Sands Missile Range (which is on the opposite side of the Organ Mountains), for a year before we bought our home in Las Cruces. I actually...

Wonderland

I see a door to a magical kingdom that must live somewhere in the hearts of all of us. I had fun painting this abstract painting. After I finished painting it I wondered what kind of frame I should put on it. As luck would have it I went to Hobby Lobby and found a red frame just the right size. My wish is that by looking at this painting it takes you back to a land of magic with a red sun. This is painted in mainly red and pink tones, but the splashes of blue, yellow, purple brown really lend...

Yucca Paradise

This is another one of my large paintings. The yuccas go from large in the front to fading into the background. I painted this painting on shiny, slick paper. It was thick enough to hold the wax. That brings me to say that most of the time I don’t paint with thick layers of wax. I guess it is something like writing, everyone makes their letters different. I like the way the southwest desert is brought out in the orange, red, blue, and brown colored wax. 25 x 32 Paper,...

Marooned

On my blank canvas I started to make a design in the middle of it. I saw what seemed to be a faint outline of a ancient ship that had been marooned. The ship looked as if it was on its side. So the painting developed from this idea. I put the people from the ship on to the shore between two cliffs with a mid afternoon sun in the background. This painting tells a story but I bet there is more to tell from each human figure that came from the ship. You can find black, orange, yellow and blue and...

My Favorite Things

I am a person that likes toys from childhood. I have things throughout my home that are reminders of childhood. So I was inspired to paint things about what children like to play with. I feel that there is a child in everyone. In my life I have tried to make sure that I didn’t lose that part of me. Being an artist it allows me to go into other places and other times. In this wax painting you will find a toy soldier with minute man hat and drum, teddy bear, rocking horse with saddle, beach...
