“Organ Mountains,” is a painting that I started some years back & just finished it recently. There were many times at sunset when the Organ Mountains really appear to be red, so that’s just how I painted them. We lived at the base of the Organ Mountains in Las Cruces, New Mexico for thirty years. We also, lived on base at the White Sands Missile Range (which is on the opposite side of the Organ Mountains), for a year before we bought our home in Las Cruces.
I actually loved them on the White Sands side better. They changed in looks constantly. When there was fog you could hardly see the mountains & they were right there. So as you can tell I am very intrigued by mountains.
So needless to say I enjoyed painting them.
